Workshop #16: Horse and Rider; Layers of conscousness in art
This year of the Fire Horse has me thinking of the conscious mind and the subconscious animal underneath, a concept I am borrowing from Zero Balancing Therapy that describes our subconscious layer as a donkey for its innocent and instinctive nature, and the rider as the conscious mind, alert and desiring control. The rider thinks and commands, the horse feels and submits or resists. Both of these ways of knowing, the conscious and the subconscious (the sympathetic and the parasympathetic), go into making and experiencing art. Let’s lean into these two inseparable modes as we make work that is driven by primal impulse and shaped by intellect.
This is a 22 day intensive online workshop. We will meet as a group 4 times on Zoom:
Saturdays, March 7, 14, 21, & 28, from 12-2pm EST
Additionally, you will be paired with another artist to sustain a daily correspondence for support as you each work on your respective projects. Be prepared to exchange feedback with an artist working in a different medium from your own. That’s the best part!
Apply with a specific project and plan for how you intend to use the 22 day period.
Space is limited to 12 participants per cohort. Sign up to secure your spot.
